Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, which means it mimics the function of the naturally occurring hormone GLP-1 in the body. GLP-1 is released by the intestines in response to food intake, and it helps regulate glucose metabolism by increasing insulin secretion. In addition, GLP-1 slows down the emptying of the stomach, making people feel fuller for longer periods of time. By doing so, it helps regulate appetite, reduce food intake, and increase feelings of fullness. Additionally, semaglutide has been shown to have other beneficial effects, such as improving insulin sensitivity and increasing the body’s metabolic level.
